What to compost?

Please cut up food scraps into small (1-2 inch) pieces to help with the composting process.

Also, please remove any produce stickers, these are not compostable.

Items that CAN be composted

  • vegetable scraps
  • fruit scraps (to prevent fruit flies, please freeze these before drop off)
  • coffee grounds
  • tea bags (please remove any staples)
  • dry grains
  • fresh leaves and green plants
  • flower bouquets
  • seaweed
  • brewery waste (hops and wet grains)
  • dry leaves
  • nut shells
  • dead plants
  • dried flowers
  • corn cobs
  • old potting soil
  • egg shells (but NO eggs – please rinse out eggs)

Items that CANNOT be composted

  • meat and fish scraps
  • dairy products
  • fats, oils, and grease
  • dog and cat waste
  • invasive weeds
  • weeds with seeds
  • diseased plants
  • non-organic materials (plastic, metal, glass, etc.)
  • compostable bags, silverware, cups (they require industrial composting temperatures)
